Trailing Stop
A stop that follows the price and closes when the market turns against you.
A Trailing Stop follows the price at a fixed distance and triggers a market order when the market turns against you by that distance. It lets a winning trade run while protecting the profit you have made.
Example: long ETH at 2,700 with a 2 % trailing stop. ETH rises to 2,900: the stop moves up with it to 2,842 (2 % below the high). If ETH then falls to 2,842, the stop triggers and closes the position.
Place one
Section titled “Place one”- Under Advanced, choose Trailing stop, and Sell to protect a long (or Buy to protect a short).
- Optional: a trigger price: the stop only starts trailing once this price is reached. Without it, it starts right away.
- Set the distance:
- Trailing rate in %: between 1 % and 15 % (quick picks 1 / 2 / 3 / 5 %), or
- Trailing value: a fixed amount in USDC (switch with the % menu next to the field).
- Enter the quantity and place the order. Use Reduce only so it can only close your position.
The order is listed in Pending, with its trailing distance.
Good to know
Section titled “Good to know”- The trailing stop follows the mark price.
- When it triggers, it executes as a market order. In fast markets the fill can be slightly worse than the stop level, and it pays the taker fee.
- The exchange requires a trailing rate of at least 1 %.
