Risk Controls

Rules you set for yourself, like in prop trading: loss and profit limits, pauses, leverage and trading times. They stop new positions, never your exits.

Most bad trading days are not one bad trade. They are the trades that come after it. Risk Controls let you decide your limits while you are calm, so they hold when you are not.

  • Settings → Risk Controls → Manage rules opens the rules window. On a phone it opens as a page of its own.
  • The same window opens from the header: Institutional → Risk Controls.
  • Zero Emotions Mode sits in the same group of the settings.
  • Each rule works on its own and is off until you turn it on. Use only the ones you want.
  • Rules only stop new positions. Open positions keep running. Closing, reducing, stop loss and take profit always work, also while a rule blocks new positions. An order on the other side of an open position, at most its size, counts as closing.
  • A new day starts at 00:00 UTC, a new week on Monday at 00:00 UTC. Trading times and days use your device’s time.
  • Losses and profits count once a position is closed, after trading fees and funding.
  • Percentages are of your account value at the start of the day (at the start of the week for the weekly limit).
  • SigSig saves your rules with your account, so they apply on all your devices.

Under every rule, the window says in plain words what happens with the values you set.

Rule What happens
Max daily loss Once your closed trades today have lost this much (% or USDC), no new positions until 00:00 UTC.
Max weekly loss The same for the week, until Monday 00:00 UTC.
Losses in a row After this many losing trades in a row today, you are done for the day or take a pause of the length you set. A winning trade resets the count.
Daily profit target Once your closed trades today have made this much (% or USDC), no new positions until 00:00 UTC, so a good day stays a good day.
Max leverage No market’s leverage can be set above your limit, and no position can be opened in a market that is still set higher.
Max open positions With this many positions open, you can’t open one in another market. Adding to an open position still works. Limit orders still waiting in the book count once they fill.
Revenge pause After every losing trade, no new positions for the minutes you set, in any market. Optionally longer after each further loss that day.
Pause after a big win After a trade that closes with at least this profit, no new positions for the minutes you set.
Question after a loss The first new position after a loss asks first: Is this a revenge trade? You can place the order or cancel it. You can write your own question. It only asks within an hour of the loss.
Max trades per day Every newly opened position counts. After the last one, no new positions until 00:00 UTC.
No trading during set hours Between the two times you set, no new positions.
Days without trading On the days you pick, no new positions.

While at least one rule is on, a Risk Controls card shows where you stand: a chip per rule (for example Day −0.7 / 3% or Losses 2 / 3), a bar up to your daily loss limit and a mood, Calm or Heated once a limit is half used or a pause runs. Hover a chip to see what it means.

  • On desktop the card is a box of its own on the trading page. Move it like the other boxes, for example to the top.
  • On a phone it sits right above the Buy / Long button.
  • During a pause the card shows a countdown and when new positions open again. When a limit is reached it shows Done for today and when trading reopens.

The Buy / Long button says why it is off, for example Cooling down 08:42, Locked until 00:00 UTC or Leverage 25x is above your 10x. Every other way to open a position (hotkeys, Urgent Entry, Chase Limit, the chart) follows the same rules.

The rules window has two tabs at the top: Futures and Options. In the Options tab you choose how your rules apply to Options rounds:

  • Same as Futures: your futures rules also stop new Options rounds. Losses, trades and positions of both count together, so a loss on futures counts toward the same daily limit as a lost round.
  • Own rules: Options get a set of rules of their own, counted only from your rounds. Leverage has no meaning there, so it isn’t offered.

In both, Max stake per round limits how much USDC you put into one round, including shares you already hold in it.

  • A rule only stops opening a round: Market, Limit and Urgent. Selling shares you hold is always possible.
  • While a rule blocks, the open button and the Urgent amounts say why, for example Locked until 00:00 UTC.
  • On the Options page a Risk Controls card sits in the right column; move it like the other tiles.
  • The commitment lock below covers the Options rules and the choice between the two modes too.

The commitment lock makes your rules hard to undo on impulse.

  • A tighter change applies at once: turning a rule on, a lower limit, fewer trades, a longer pause.
  • A looser change waits 24 hours: turning a rule off, a higher limit, more trades, a shorter pause, switching between % and USDC, turning the lock itself off. Until then your current rules stay in force. A note at the rule shows the countdown, and Undo change takes it back.

Risk Controls are a tool for your own discipline, not a security feature. They work in SigSig, on desktop and on phones. Orders you place through another interface built on Orderly, or through the API, do not see your rules.
