Chase Limit

A limit order that follows the best price until it fills, so you pay the maker fee instead of the taker fee.

A Chase Limit is a post-only limit order that follows the market. It sits at the best price on your side of the order book (the best bid when you buy, the best ask when you sell) and moves with it until it is filled. You get filled as a maker, so you pay the lower maker fee instead of the taker fee of a market order.

  1. In the order panel, open Advanced and choose Chase Limit.
  2. Enter the quantity (or use the slider), and set leverage and reduce-only as usual.
  3. Choose how the order follows the book (below) and click Buy / Long or Sell / Short.

While the chase runs, a bar at the top of the order panel reads Chase Limit active and shows the side, quantity and current price. Without a time limit it shows the running time; with a time limit it shows a progress bar and counts down the time left until the limit is reached. Stop ends the chasing; the order then stays on the book at its current price (cancel it in Pending if you don’t want it). You can run one chase per market.

Option Where the order sits When to use it
Best bid / ask (default) At the best price on your side: the best bid when buying, the best ask when selling. The normal choice: cheapest entry, fills as soon as someone trades at market against you.
Aggressive One tick inside the spread, so it becomes the new best price and is first in line. When you want to be filled faster. It only differs from Best bid / ask when the spread is wider than one tick.
Stalk A fixed distance (USDC or %) behind the best bid / ask, trailing one way only: a buy follows the price up, a sell follows it down. When the market turns back, the order stays where it is. When you want to enter on a pullback: the order keeps up with a rising (or falling) market and fills when the price comes back to it.

The order is always post-only: it never trades immediately against the book, so it always pays the maker fee. SigSig reacts to changes of the best bid / ask and moves the order at most every 2 seconds, to stay within the exchange’s request limits. An order can be changed at most 5 times on the exchange; after that, SigSig cancels it and places a new one for the unfilled rest, so in Pending you may see the order reappear with a new order time.

  • When filled (default): the chase follows the market until the order is completely filled or you press Stop.
  • At a limit: set a price limit (never buy above / sell below this price; the chase stops when the market moves past it) and / or a time limit (1, 5, 15 or 60 minutes). With Keep order when a limit is reached, the unfilled order stays on the book at its last price; without it, it is cancelled.
  • Market moves through your price: if the market jumps past your order between two updates, the exchange cancels the post-only order instead of filling it as taker, and the chase ends with a message saying so. Start a new chase or place a market order if you still want in.

A limit order that the market has moved away from can be pulled back to the market with one click: in Pending, click Chase next to Cancel (on a phone: Chase on the order card, next to Edit and Cancel). The order moves once to the best bid (buy) or best ask (sell) and stays there; it does not keep following the price. Its quantity and settings stay the same. If the order has already been changed 5 times, it is replaced by a new order at the best price.

The chase runs in your browser. Keep the SigSig tab open while it runs. You can switch to other pages of SigSig, and a reload picks the chase up again. If you close the tab, your computer goes to sleep or the connection drops, the order stays on the book at its last price but no longer follows the market. With several SigSig tabs open, one of them runs the chase and the others show it.
